NI Conservatives’ spokesman, Terry Wright, has described an attempt to bomb a police station in Londonderry yesterday, by placing a device on board a Translink bus, as “contemptible, cowardly and completely reckless”.
“This incident was apparently the work of dissident republicans and it proves, once again, that a tiny number of fanatics are intent upon bringing death and mayhem back to the streets of Northern Ireland”, Terry explained. “Not only was this a serious attempt to murder police officers, it also ran the very real risk of killing or maiming civilians who were travelling on the bus or the driver who was ordered to drive it to Strand Road police station.”
“When will the penny drop with the groups who still attempt attacks like this, that trying to unite Ireland by blowing its people to bits, is an illogical nonsense? They cannot be allowed to drag the vast majority of people back towards a dark past, with their deplorable actions. Every incident of this type should make the rest of us even more determined to get on with building a shared and stable future together.”
