NI Conservatives’ spokesman, Brian McBride, has said that drivers in Northern Ireland deserve the same registration and vehicle licensing services as the rest of the UK.
“At the moment, in Northern Ireland, we’ve got the ridiculous situation whereby drivers are getting a worse service, just to prevent the need to reform the Driver and Vehicle Agency’s operation in Coleraine”, Brian explained. “That means that motorists can’t tax their vehicle online or access a full range of vehicle licensing options at their local Post Office. The Stormont executive has perversely stood in the way of progress and deprived drivers of a convenient service, just to avoid change to the DVA.”
“ That approach simply cannot be allowed to continue. The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) in Swansea is currently conducting a consultation into bringing the services available in Northern Ireland into line with the rest of the UK. NI Conservatives applaud this initiative and we’d urge drivers to respond to the consultation and make it clear that they deserve the convenience of online applications and taxing their vehicles at over 150 post offices here. It’s crazy that Stormont ministers have held up progress for so long and they cannot be allowed to do so any longer.”
