NI Conservatives’ finance spokesman, Harry Cullen, has hit out at Sammy Wilson for making ‘misleading comments’ about the Carbon Floor Tax.
“The Chancellor made an excellent decision to exempt Northern Ireland from the carbon levy”, Harry explained. “This means that homes and businesses here will be exempt from £175 million of costs over a five year period and it will keep prices down by 15%.” “It is important to emphasise that this is a decision over which Sammy Wilson and other local parties had no influence. It was made by a Conservative chancellor in government, yet the finance minister has the cheek to deride the Secretary of State for her part in the decision.”
“Theresa Villiers regularly consults with NI Conservatives and local business organisations about
issues around the economy and energy. She has worked with the CBI and others to deliver an excellent deal for Northern Ireland on the carbon levy."
“Sammy Wilson should concentrate on doing his own job properly, by sorting out public procurement and the endless amount of waste over which his department presides, instead on insulting the Secretary of State and trying to take credit for government decisions over which he has no authority.”
