NI Conservatives’ spokesman for sport, Trevor Ringland, has welcomed the environment minister’s decision to grant planning permission for the redevelopment of Windsor Park football stadium in south Belfast.
“The plans for an 18,000 seat arena are very exciting”, Trevor said. “Northern Irish football, the IFA and the fans have done tremendous work in recent years and thoroughly deserve this new home. Finally, the Northern Ireland team will have a fitting venue to host matches like those unforgettable nights against England and Spain.”
“The IFA should be applauded for the care it to took to involve local people in discussions about the plans to redevelop Windsor Park. Our three largest sports are all getting new facilities in Belfast, which will put money into the economy, boost the construction industry and attract visitors from abroad. It’s also very important that they’re open to the wider community and can host other appropriate events, when opportunities arise.”
