NI Conservatives’ enterprise spokesman, Johnny Andrews, has welcomed the government’s plans to slash red tape for businesses. Conservative business minister, Michael Fallon, announced that many companies will now be exempt from health and safety inspections and 3,000 regulations will be scrapped.
“The government is offering a timely shot in the arm for business, by doing away with the burden of needless and expensive inspections and regulations”, Johnny said. “More than ever, during a time of recession businesses should be free to concentrate on creating jobs and growing, without being hampered by red tape.”
“Michael Fallon has listened to what business people have been telling him. By exempting many shops, offices, pubs and clubs from health and safety inspections, these enterprises can get on with doing what they do best. The law will also change in order to require proof of negligence on behalf of businesses, in health and safety cases.”
“Cutting red tape shows the government is serious about growth, jobs and rebalancing the economy. It demonstrates an attitude to the needs of business which the executive in Northern Ireland would be wise to heed.”
