The NI Conservatives’ culture, sports and leisure spokesman, Trevor Ringland, has wished competitors from Northern Ireland and the rest of these islands all the best ahead of the Olympic Games in London.
“The countless months of anticipation are almost over and the action is about to start”, Trevor enthused. “It’s a marvellous opportunity for all the Northern Irish competitors to shine in their respective sports, at a venue so close to home. For them, the London games will be the culmination of years of passion, hard work and self-sacrifice. I wish them all the very best, whatever their chosen discipline, and whether they’re competing for the UK team or for Ireland.”
“For the rest of us the games are a chance to be excited and inspired by the dedication of our Olympians. They set us a tremendous example and we should be very proud of their achievements. Northern Ireland has an impressive record of punching above its weight in the world of sport and sport can have a unique power to break down barriers and bring our interdependent communities together.”
“I look forward to cheering on all of our competitors, as well as other competitors from these islands. Let’s hope that there are some great performances and even a few medals to celebrate. And let’s prepare to be inspired by the achievements, the spectacle and the Olympic ideals of doing one’s best, friendship and respect, as the greatest sporting show on earth comes to the United Kingdom.”
