The Rt Hon Owen Paterson MP is the latest in a string of senior UK politicians to support the local Conservatives in the 2nd March Stormont election
The former Secretary of State for Northern Ireland joined the campaign trail to canvass support for the Conservative candidates Frank Shivers and Sheila Bodul in North Down and Belfast East.
His visit comes after the Rt Hon James Brokenshire MP, the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, has been campaigning in recent days in North Down, Belfast East and East Londonderry with large teams of Conservative activists.
In addition, Parliamentary Private Secretary for Culture, Media & Sport Craig Whittaker MP has also campaigned alongside Northern Ireland Conservatives in the run up to the Assembly election.
As many voters have become disillusioned with the same old parties who have been running the Stormont Assembly for years, Northern Ireland Conservatives are increasingly confident that they will win more votes on Thursday.
Paterson commented: "The Conservative Party has been delivering for everyone in every region of our country. As a result, voters see us as the only credible alternative to manage the economy and public services. This explains why we had historic by-election gain in Cumbria last Thursday and a remarkable election success in Scotland, Wales and England over the past couple of years. Furthermore, we are the only UK-wide national party who has fielded candidates across most areas in Northern Ireland and our candidates and activists have been working extremely hard to bring about change in Stormont.”
