Bill Manwaring has applauded Belfast City Council’s decision to fly the Armed Forces Day flag from Belfast City Hall next week.
“Emblems can be a divisive issue, but it is absolutely right that the people of Belfast have every opportunity to show support for the brave men and women who serve in our Armed Forces”, Bill explained. “Many of the young people currently in Iraq, Afghanistan or elsewhere, come from communities in Northern Ireland, and it is a tremendous opportunity to raise awareness of the contribution their service makes to our country.”
“Belfast City Council should be congratulated on reaching the right decision on this issue, despite the fact that it raises strong feelings in some parts of our community. It is vitally important to give people the chance to show their appreciation for those who risk life and limb to keep the UK safe. We should all be grateful for their bravery and the flying of this flag is an appropriate mark of pride and respect”.
