The Secretary of State joined NI Conservatives’ activists on the campaign trail for the European and local government elections, this morning. Theresa Villiers canvassed voters in Bangor, Newtownards and Comber in support of Mark Brotherston, candidate for the European Parliamentary poll, and local government candidates who are standing for election to the North Down and Ards super-council.
“It’s great to have a cabinet minister and a Conservative colleague give such backing to our campaigns, both at our launch last week and now on the doorsteps”, Mark Brotherston stressed. “It emphasises that the NI Conservatives are part of a strong, UK-wide Conservative team, which offers influence from the council chamber to the cabinet table and all the way to Brussels and the European Parliament. That’s something that no other party in Northern Ireland can offer voters.”
“I’m delighted to be out campaigning with a top class set of local government candidates and Mark Brotherston; the only European election candidate who can deliver fundamental change to the EU”, Theresa said. “My colleagues in the NI Conservatives are offering a strong prospectus for both elections, with an emphasis on creating jobs, growing the economy and building lasting prosperity for everyone in Northern Ireland. Their message complements the efforts of a Conservative led government whose long-term economic plan is turning around the economy and has created 10,000 extra private sector jobs in Northern Ireland over the past year.”
