NI Conservatives’ sports spokesman, Trevor Ringland, has congratulated Coleraine rowers, Peter Chambers, Richard Chambers and Alan Campbell on their medal success at the London Olympics.
Peter and Richard Chambers were part of the Team GB crew which won silver in yesterday’s men’s lightweight fours, while Alan Campbell won bronze in today’s single sculls final.
“The achievements of the three Coleraine rowers are absolutely extraordinary and I extend heartfelt congratulations to them all”, Trevor remarked. “It was remarkable to see three oarsmen from Northern Ireland make the British team, never mind the fact that all three are from the same town and each leaves the Games with a medal.”
“The Chambers brothers and Alan Campbell, like all of Northern Ireland’s competitors at these Olympics, are absolute inspirations to all of us. Hopefully their triumph will demonstrate to our young people that with hard work and determination anything is possible, whether in sport, business or any other field”.
“Both of the races in which they took part were absolutely thrilling and epitomised the dedication and never-say-die spirit which take sportspeople to the top. Northern Ireland is utterly awed and inspired by their performances and we are all thoroughly proud of their achievements.”
