A group of young NI Conservatives’ members demonstrated their ‘green fingers’ last Tuesday evening, by planting flowerbeds at the Project 24 site in Bangor. The North Down Tories’ ‘Conservative Future’ group took part in the social action project, in conjunction with the YMCA, to improve the appearance of Queen’s Parade.
“The site included a number of raised flowerbeds which needed to be planted”, explained David Symington, a Conservative Future member and prospective NI Conservatives’ council candidate. “It was a good opportunity to get something done in the community and get our hands dirty, so the YMCA helped us aquire some plants from local businesses, as well as the necessary tools and we did the job. Hopefully the flowers brighten up the area around the art pods and people will enjoy them.”
Simon Warren the chairman of North Down Conservative future chair joked, “NI Conservatives are proud to be a grassroots organisation, but this exercise has shown we can get to grips with the roots of other plants too. The serious point is that we’re prepared to roll up our sleeves do some work, while other parties just complain about problems. Conservative Future offers young people an opportunity to get out into their communities and make a difference. Anyone who’s interested in getting involved should contact the NI Conservatives’ office in High Street. I must also extend our thanks to the YMCA for helping us to get this project going.”
