NI Conservatives’ culture spokesman, Trevor Ringland, has expressed his excitement about the forthcoming City of Culture 2013 programme, which will be announced today in Londonderry.
“The UK City of Culture label is a huge opportunity for Derry and a huge opportunity for Northern Ireland”, Trevor enthused. “We already know about some of the exciting events which will come to Londonderry in 2013 and I’m sure that Martin Bradley’s team will unveil an incredible programme, later today.”
“The people of the city should be very proud, as should the people of Northern Ireland, and I would urge everyone to go to Derry and enjoy the feast of culture which will be going on all next year. City of Culture will boost the arts, bring people together and act as a shop window to the whole world for the North West and for Northern Ireland. Already the Lonely Planet has named Londonderry one of its four ‘must visit’ destinations for 2013, which is a marvellous accolade.”
“It’s also fully deserved, with landmark events like the Turner Prize visiting the city, as well as all the rich tradition of home grown culture which will be celebrated. The announcement today marks the start of an exciting time for Londonderry and an exciting time for Northern Ireland. Let’s all get behind the City of Culture and enjoy fully all the opportunities it presents.”
