NI Conservatives’ spokesman, Mark Brotherston, has called upon UEFA to ensure that Northern Ireland football fans are admitted to the forthcoming European Championship qualifying match between Romania and Northern Ireland.
“The match takes place two weeks on Friday, yet UEFA’s disciplinary committee has still not made a decision about whether or not to hold the game behind closed doors, due to trouble at the Romania vs. Hungary game”, Mark explained. “With travelling Northern Ireland fans already having shelled out money for flights and accommodation, this process is taking an outrageous length of time. UEFA should have some respect for its customers and make it clear that Northern Ireland fans will definitely be given tickets for the game.”
“The decision was originally supposed to be made last Thursday and it has now been postponed three times. As usual, the last people to be considered are the dedicated fans who travel enormous distances across Europe to support their team. It is unacceptable that they still don’t know whether they can attend the fixture, just two weeks before it is scheduled to take place. UEFA needs to make it clear immediately that their journey will not be in vain.”
