Harry Cullen, NI Conservatives’ finance spokesman, has criticised the Ulster Bank for its handling of the computer problems which have stopped payments to many people’s accounts.
“The situation has now become a fiasco, as we enter a third week of problems,” Harry commented. “The vast majority of people have enough money to cover direct debits and other problems if the bank had corrected the problem, but the bank apparently refuses to pay up because of possible abuse by a very small minority.”
“This is simply unacceptable, despite the fact that the fault is entirely down to the bank it appears to have looked after its own interests and not those of its many loyal customers and no amount of grovelling apologies will make any difference. It is now time for action and time to commit whatever resources are needed to solve this debacle.”
