David Cameron and Theresa Villiers have once again shown “fierce determination to deliver for Northern Ireland”, according to a Conservative Party economy spokesman, after the government’s document was agreed at the current talks process. However Johnny Andrews said that the Executive parties had subjected people in Northern Ireland to a “dreary, pointless charade”, over the past number of weeks.
“No-one will be fooled by the last minute nature of this deal nor by the way the parties dragged out the talks”, Johnny commented. “In contrast, the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State have demonstrated yet again the Conservative Party’s fierce determination to deliver for Northern Ireland, weeks after offering powers to cut Corporation Tax, which will now be delivered whenever Parliament meets, next term. David Cameron and Theresa Villiers have shown incredible patience and drafted a document which offers a way forward, as well as finding more funding to build a shared, prosperous society for everyone.”
“The tantrums, all night sessions and taxpayer funded breakfasts, demanded by the current Stormont parties, won’t fool the public one iota. They’ve seen it all before, in countless rounds of ‘hothouse talks’, required by politicians who, most of the time, refuse to govern and behave little better than spoilt brats. They will no doubt be expecting slaps on the back this evening, but unless the Stormont parties stop preening and start rebalancing the economy, tackling segregation and making our political institutions work, rather than simply talking about it, it will continue to be the Conservatives, rather than the Executive, delivering for Northern Ireland.”
