Chairman of the Northern Ireland Conservatives, Irwin Armstrong, has expressed his support for this year’s Poppy Appeal and urged everyone to give generously.
“The 2011 appeal in Northern Ireland was officially launched on Friday at Hillsborough Castle by the secretary of state. I’d urge everyone to support this year’s appeal generously, in the run up to Remembrance Sunday. With our soldiers encountering dangers, day in and day out, in Afghanistan, the work of the Royal British Legion has never been more valuable.”
“The money raised by the Poppy Appeal will help provide care for injured service people. These brave men and women deserve our help and support, as they attempt to recover from injuries incurred protecting their country and securing freedom for Afghans.”
“Regrettably, in Northern Ireland, acts of remembrance have not always been accorded the reverence which they deserve. Thankfully attitudes seem to be changing and hopefully this year’s appeal will give everyone, across our community, an opportunity to show respect for a sombre and heart-felt act of remembering.”
